“Once I began to ask the
right questions, God began to give answers that were beyond my
limitations and experiences. IsnÕt that just like Him? He is in no
way limited to my small mind and experience, so He graciously began
to bring across my path wiser minds than mine and better books than
I owned. They began to unfold before my wondering eyes a vision of
the possibilities and potentialities available to any who were
willing to walk a different path in educating their children. Much
to my amazement, I read and heard of people who didnÕt actually
start their school days precisely at 8:30 am and end at 3:00 pm;
who did not have school desks and a blackboard, who didnÕt have a
daily schedule consisting of one hour of math, one hour of grammar,
one hour of science, and so on; who actually allowed their children
freedom to discover what was fascinating to them (even if it wasnÕt
in the scope and sequence for that year); who would follow rabbit
trails without guilt; who used what was appropriate for their
students in a textbook and didnÕt bother about the rest (I thought
the textbook police would show up at my door if I didnÕt follow the
book exactly!); who didnÕt even use textbooks (is that legal?); who
listened to their childrenÕs ideas and thoughts with delight rather
than impatience; who respected their children as individuals created
in the image of God rather than as faulty, unfinished
replicas-in-the-making of their parents.
“Honestly, for me it was a greater vision than I had ever dreamed of receiving, and though there was a certain breathtaking scope to the vision, there was also a bit of terror in wondering if I was up to the challenge. After all, it doesnÕt take much to simply do what was done to you. ItÕs an entirely different prospect to swim upstream, go against the grain, climb a new peak, sail an almost uncharted sea.
“Does this concept seem overwhelming and perhaps unattainable for you? Do you feel like you need more ‘flesh and bones’ on your approach than ‘mighty-flighty’ fantasies you can barely envision? Then perhaps the products listed here—books, tapes, CD's, video—would be of value in helping you walk step by step, day after day, along the homeschooling path.”
